The first question I’m sure you have is what in the world is a SquareDrop? It’s like a teardrop but for the serious camper. Think functional and practical – less glamping. They are square in shape and have a variety of features such as galleys, roof racks, cargo storage, and more. Check out my Pinterest board of SquareDrops, TearDrops, and Accessories I like.
I first discovered SquareDrops while browsing my Facebook feed over morning coffee. I came across a plug from Outdoor Magazine featuring something called a Hiker Trailer. Small, lightweight, compact, but still everything you need in a camper, plus the ability to haul extra things on top, like your kayaks, skybox, or even a rooftop tent. I really do love the Hiker Trailers, but they are about a year out in builds, which sent me on a quest to find something similar sooner. After weeks of looking, comparing, and pricing, I have found the answer. The Escapade Ridge and it turns out they are more than 2k less than a comparable Hiker Trailer.
The Ridge comes standard with all the best features–a galley with storage and countertop including sliding doors leading to the cabin, diamond plate guard and fenders, leaf spring suspension, insulation throughout, 15″ tires w/spare, windows on both sides, doors with windows and screen on both sides, rear hitch for the bike rack, front cargo carrier, stabilizer jacks, air vents, LED lights, electric and USB plugs, padded floor, mattress, cabinets, and built using non-toxic high-quality materials. The camper measures 5×10 including the galley so I can put a queen-sized bed in there even, which is perfect for me and my bestest dog friends! The Ridge weighs only 950 pounds and costs $5850.00. Escapade requires 50% down plus full price of accessories, and is out about 4 months. I’m going to get the roof rack upgrade for $200 because it’s a GREAT price and then reinforce the roof for an extra $100 so that it will easily hold the weight of a full rooftop tent. Saving now, the goal is $6150.00.
